Looking for your next Instructional Design Coordinator opportunity? Village Enterprise is recruiting an instructional design professional to support curriculum development, blended learning and capacity building across its Technical Assistance portfolio in East Africa.
For learning designers, trainers and curriculum developers, this is also another sign of how the instructional design profession is expanding across Africa — beyond universities and conventional e-learning companies into NGOs, development programmes and organisations delivering learning at scale.
What Does the Instructional Design Coordinator Role Involve?
Village Enterprise is seeking someone who can help translate technical knowledge and programme methodology into practical learning experiences for different audiences.
The work brings together curriculum development, adult learning, facilitator-led training, digital learning and self-paced learning. That makes this particularly relevant to professionals who can design across multiple learning formats rather than working with only one delivery method.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Developing curricula and structured learning materials.
- Creating blended learning solutions for both instructor-led and self-paced training.
- Designing learning for diverse audiences, including low-literacy learners.
- Collaborating with subject matter experts and stakeholders to develop effective learning products.
- Supporting facilitator training, capacity building and Training-of-Trainers initiatives.
- Contributing to quality assurance, learning evaluation and the continuous improvement of learning solutions.
- Using appropriate digital learning technologies and instructional design tools.
What Experience Is Village Enterprise Looking For?
One of the most important requirements is practical experience designing learning in different contexts.
Key requirement: candidates should have at least three years of hands-on experience in curriculum development and creating blended learning solutions for instructor-led, low-literacy audiences and self-paced training programmes.
Professionals with experience in instructional design, curriculum development, adult learning, digital learning, training and capacity building should therefore pay particular attention to this opportunity.
Experience using tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, H5P and learning management systems can also strengthen an instructional designer’s profile.
However, tools alone are not enough. Strong learning designers need to analyse learning needs, collaborate with subject matter experts, select appropriate learning strategies and create solutions that work within the realities of their target audiences.

There is a bigger story behind vacancies like this one.
Organisations working in education, international development, workforce development and social impact need people who can turn complex knowledge into learning that people can understand, apply and scale.
This creates opportunities for instructional designers as well as teachers, trainers, curriculum developers and L&D professionals who are deliberately building instructional design capabilities.
It also raises the standard expected from the profession. Instructional design is not simply about producing attractive slides or polished e-learning screens. It requires the ability to diagnose learning needs, design appropriate interventions, work with experts, evaluate learning and solve genuine learning and performance problems.
