Course Overview

What this course is about

A guided, cohort-based programme for professionals who want hands-on experience, mentorship, and real project work in instructional design and learning development.

The programme blends live facilitated sessions with independent project work, giving you direct mentorship as you design a full learning module from concept to completion. It is built for people who want accountability, community, and expert feedback — not just self-paced content.

Entry Requirements

Prerequisites

Prior completion of an introductory instructional design course (ours or elsewhere) is recommended, as this programme builds on foundational concepts. Applicants are reviewed before each cohort begins.

Curriculum

What you’ll cover

A week-by-week breakdown of the programme, from your first learning-problem analysis through to your final capstone presentation.

Week 1 — Thinking Like an Instructional Designer

Start by learning to spot the difference between a learning problem and a content problem and how to analyse a stakeholder’s real need rather than their stated request. You’ll leave the week with a real learning-problem analysis and your capstone project selected.

The research every credible instructional designer has to know — adult learning principles, cognitive load, Bloom’s Taxonomy, and Universal Design for Learning — applied immediately by redesigning a genuinely ineffective lesson. Your first round of peer feedback happens this week.

Move from research into structure: writing measurable learning outcomes, storyboarding, and applying ADDIE and backward design to your own capstone. By the end of the week, you’ll have your capstone’s learning outcomes and a first-draft storyboard.

Build the activities that actually make learning stick — scenario-based design, microlearning, feedback design, and where AI genuinely speeds up the work. Your capstone’s activities and assessments get built this week, followed by your second round of peer feedback.

Get hands-on with the tools professionals actually use — Articulate Rise, Canva, and Moodle — including Teacher-level access to your own sandbox course on Academy, where you’ll build a working prototype of your capstone directly.

Turn six weeks of work into a career asset: portfolio development, CV and LinkedIn positioning, and how to price and find your first paid projects. The programme closes with your final capstone presentation and a completed professional portfolio.
