If you have been waiting for the perfect moment to share your stories or poetry with the world, this might be it. Two major international publishers are currently inviting submissions from African writers and the deadlines fast approaching.
1. Flame Tree Publishing Anthology: Africanfuturism
Flame Tree Publishing is calling for submissions of short stories for an upcoming anthology themed around Africanfuturism.
Organisers note that the stories should be 'set in and about Africa — whether that’s a future Africa, an alternative Africa, or a parallel Africa.' Writers are encouraged to explore science fiction concepts, positive futures, and imaginative worlds grounded in African realities.
The genre leans more towards science fiction than fantasy, but interpretation is open. You decide how Africa’s future is imagined.
Deadline: November 2, 2025

2. The Sillerman First Book Prize for African Poets
For poets, the Sillerman First Book Prize for African Poets is now open for entries. This annual prize celebrates emerging African voices who have not yet published a full-length poetry collection.
Entries are welcome from writers across the continent and the diaspora, including those who have self-published shorter works or chapbooks. Only poems written in English are eligible.
Deadline: December 1, 2025
Winner Announcement: June 2026
